We're using Jaiku for project communications. Jaiku can be considered a bit like IRC but with conversations that can be linked to. See:

To get the full benefit of Jaiku it is a good idea to install a proper client for it:

• Juhu for OS X
• Mauku for Nokia Internet Tablets
• Jaiku Mobile for Series 60
